UST climbs to fifth among PH universities in 2025 AD Scientific Index

 -November 7, 2024 THE UNIVERSITY ranked fifth among Philippine universities in the 2025 Alper-Dodger (AD) scientific index, which evaluates institutions based on the performance and productivity of their scientists and researchers.

UST rose to No. 5 among Philippine universities and No. 6 overall among Philippine research institutions, which includes organizations like the International Rice Research Institute. Its recent country rank was a notch higher than the sixth spot it held in the 2024 edition.

Globally, UST secured the 5,480th spot out of 24,324 institutions, up from 6,622nd last year. 

A total of 330 scientists represented UST in the index, the sixth highest among Philippine institutions. In terms of total citations, UST ranked 1,418th out of 10,058 universities in Asia and sixth out of 292 schools in the country. 

Prof. Raymond Rosales of the UST Research Center for Health Sciences emerged as UST’s top scientist in the 2025 index, ranking 49th in the Philippines in terms of total citations with 5,203 across 83 publications.

UST led Philippine schools in research in history, philosophy, and theology. 

It placed in the top 10 of other academic fields: medical and health sciences (No. 4 of 124), arts and humanities (No. 5 of 140), architecture and design (No. 9 of 20), and natural sciences (No. 10 of 160).

Meanwhile, UST ranked 13th of 199 in education, 14th of 72 in economics and econometrics, 20th of 141 in business and management, 21st of 104 in agriculture and forestry, and 24th of 268 in social sciences and humanities. 

AD ranked the University of the Philippines (UP) system highest in the Philippines with 1,400 scientists. De La Salle University followed with 598 scientists. 

UP Diliman and Ateneo de Manila University ranked third and fourth with 239 and 150 scientists, respectively.   

The AD Scientific Index ranks universities, companies, hospitals, and other institutions based on the scientific performance and added value of the scientific productivity of their individual scientists. 

It measured research institutions’ performance in 197 academic disciplines and 13 major academic fields and evaluated their educational influence using data from Google Scholar.
